11th April – Burntwood & Park House Compete at BCA Midlands Classic
5 Cheervision squads came together from Burntwood School, Park House School and Park House Club on Saturday 11th April at the BCA Midlands Cheerleading Competition. With over 70 cheerleaders and as many spectators supporting the day was a wonderful experience for everyone involved. Our teams came together and supported each other fantastically – encompassing the true spirit of cheer. Superb performances by all 5 squads ensured 5 trophies from 6 divisions! For the results please check out the Competition Results page on the website. Thank you to everyone that made the day possible. Coach Paul was SO proud of each and everyone of you.

28th February – City Compete at BCA Western Classic
23 cheerleaders represented City of London School for Girls and Cheervision in their first ever cheerleading competition in Newport, Wales. Once at the Newport Centre, the girls transformed themselves into cheerleaders, with hair, make up and kits. They then spent the next couple of hours rehearsing outside on the pavement as they rehearsed Coach Alicia into the routine (she was a very last minute replacement). Passers by, children and drunks didn’t deter the girls from giving 100% into their final practice. Coach Gareth’s mats proved a hit, meaning that all stunts were able go up outside. The girls trained with pride, energy and spirit and were a real credit to themselves, the school and their coaches. Later than planned, which worked well for us, the team took to the mats and gave superb first performance. The girls did not stop talking cheer all the way back to London – some of them gave a rather impromptu performance of the whole routine in the street - the Barbican was alive!

24th February – Theale Green Tumble Club Launch
Theale Green tumble squad and selected cheerleaders from Park House Cheervision and Willink Cheervision came together as one incredible team to perform to over 100 parents, teachers and representatives from West Berkshire Sport.
The Squad, who had only 6 hours of training together, produced a routine which I, as an experienced coach can only describe as astonishing, 1st class and new to the world of tumble, cheer, street dance and ballet.
The performance was a celebration of the past few months worth of training and the promotion of the new high performance tumble squads open to children and Cheervision athletes, to be held at Theale Green gymnasium every Tuesday.
Coach Paul choreographed the high-octane cheer sections and stunts, which linked in with the tumble, passes, a wickedly talented street dance solo and a breath taking street ballet solo. Spectators were wowed at the level of skill demonstrated from all the athletes and the passion and dedication to the sport shown by the squad.
The squad became one and performed as if they had trained together for years. To all the children of the various schools, congratulations on a super show - we coaches are incredibly proud of you all! My thanks to the SSCO team at Theale Green, my head coach Paul Butler, and my coaching team: Sam, Olivia, Billie, Sarah and Kirsty.
Well done all.
Coach Gareth
Head Tumble Coach, Cheervision

4th January – BCA Stunt Clinic, Manchester
10 Cheervision coaches / cheerleaders took part in the BCA’s levels 3-5 stunt and tumble clinic held at the Altrincham Leisure Centre on Sunday 4th January. The clinic was a great opportunity for the coaches to work together from our different clubs and learn new skills and perfect existing ones. We all made new friends with lots of the other cheerleaders and coaches taking part. The highlights of the day were Coach Jecoliah and Coach Gareth flying in prep stunts and Coach Kirsty’s travelling basket toss! Thank you coaches for a great weekend and to the BCA and Joe Vecchioni (from the Maryland Twisters) for making it possible.

2nd & 3rd December 2008, City of London School For Girls Cheer Squad Perform In Gym & Dance Display
The new CITY cheer squad made their debut public appearance at the schools bi annual gym and dance display. The squad of 23, made up of girls from year 7 through to the sixth form have been training hard all term in preparation for the display. Both performances were first rate, with energy, passion, precision and cheer in abundance. The girls looked superb in their new kits and cannot wait to compete at the BCA Western Classic in February 2009.

October 2008, City of London School For Girls Cheer Squad Receives A Grant
The CITY cheer squad heard that their application to the London Youth Forum had been successful and they had been awarded enough money to pay for the whole squads full kits, including skirt, liner, shell and cheer trainers. The grant, of nearly £2,500.00 was a result of the girls hard work and commitment to the cheer squad so far. Thank you so much to the Youth Forum.

December 2008, City of London School For Girls Cheer Squad Receives Funding from the CLSG Friends
The squads application to the schools Friends Association has been successful and they have been awarded £2,000.00 to purchase ribbons, gym shorts, training t-shirts and BCA ID cards. The money will also cover the squads competition entry fees and the remainder of the coach cost which the girls themselves have already raised £500 for. A massive thank you to the CLSG Friends!

5th November 2008, Willink Cheerleading Club Launches
Wednesday 5th November saw the launch of our new cheer club based at the Willink School, Burghfield Common, Berkshire. With over 80 children attending the first session, a great night was had by all and hopefully many of the children who attended will join the club and become Cheervision Cheerleaders. The club is due to compete for the first time in July 2009.

December 2008, Burntwood Seniors Gets Off To A Flying Start!
The newly formed Cheervision Burntwood Senior Squad has got off to a flying start this term. With many cheerleaders from the High School Squad and lots of new cheerleaders joining, the squad has had a great term working together. Congratulations must go to all the new girls who have worked so hard and learnt so much in a short space of time. Keep up the good work and here’s to our 2nd exciting term!

November 2008, Coach Paul Coaches At Mary Hare Primary School
It has been an absolute pleasure to return to Mary Hare this half term to develop the work I started in the summer term this year. Working with children who are hard of hearing has been a steep learning curve for me, and always presents new challenges for me as a coach. These children have some of the tightest cheer motions of all our cheerleaders and pick things up so quickly. When they stunt they protect each other so much – they might not have the right lifting technique every time but they have never once dropped a flyer. Their excitement from the time I arrive is so uplifting, I hope one day we can offer them the opportunity to perform or compete at a cheer event. Well done class 1,2 and 3!

29th November 2009, Future Cheer Winter Wonderland Competition
Congratulations to all cheerleaders from Burntwood Cheervision who took part in Future Cheers competition in Brentwood on 29th November. What a day! It may have been very cold outside but it wasn’t inside! Both the Pee Wee and Junior teams worked very hard all day. The most important things were seeing lots of smiley faces throughout the day and seeing the team work from both squads.
For those of you not able to stay until the final awards ceremony we were delighted with our Pee Wees coming 4th and the Juniors coming 5th in their divisions (PW1 and JNR2). Burntwood Cheervision was also awarded the ‘One Heartbeat Award’, which was a wonderful surprise. Thank you to all the parents and families for supporting the event, to our Head Cheer mums, Sarah Moy and Rose Morbin and to your coaches – Coach Gareth, Coach Billie, Coach Alicia and Coach Shavel.

7th September – Adidas 5K run, Hyde Park London – Burntwood
A really big thank you to the cheerleaders and their mums who volunteered to cheer on the women running the Adidas 5k run in London’s Hyde Park. We were invited to support the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. After a very grey start and several torrential rain downpours on the journey to Hyde Park, the group of 12 girls and 6 mums met and checked in with the charities organisers.
Kitted in GOSH purple T-shirts the girls learnt 5 cheers and entertained passing members of the public. We then headed up to the 4k marker spot and set up base with other GOSH supporters. The girls cheered and encouraged the runners and walkers – who ranged in ages from babies to OAP’s. Runners included Linda Robson, Floella Benjamin and Christine Ohuruogu! The weather held out for us and we played our part in offering some morale support to the 15,000 women who took part in the race, approximately 400 of them running for GOSH. Next year we plan for the whole club to take part and run/walk the race…

2nd – 9th August – Coach Paul heads back to the USA
Just over two years since my first visit to the USA (for cheerleading purposes!) I returned to the town of Winchester in Virginia, on the east coast of America, about one hour from Washington DC for a ‘cheer top-up course’. The week was spent training with the Cheer Eruption Allstars and the Strasburg High School Cheerleading Squad under the guidance of Anne Gorman and her daughter Samantha Gorman. Cheer Eruption is a full time cheerleading club, with 2 of their own premises in the town, both with sprung floors and plenty of tumbling equipment. The gyms are busy from lunchtime through until 9pm each day, with squad after squad training hard. Mornings and afternoons were spent at Strasburg High School as the newly tried out cheer squad prepare for the regional and state high school competitions and the rest of the time was spent in one of the two gyms! I had a great time there and big thanks to Coach Anne, Coach Sam, Coach Ryan and the whole Cheer Eruption team for being so helpful and welcoming.
