27th April - Sponsored Walk @ Burntwood
Congratulations to everyone who took part in last Sundays sponsored walk from Burntwood School to the London Eye – and back! 31 people took part in the walk and it was great to have the support of lots of parents who braved the rain for the 11.5 mile walk. Spirits were high for most of the route – though the heavy rain as we approached the London Eye did get rather uncomfortable. On our return leg we were again washed out on the last 45 minutes or so, but this helped to soothe those blisters that were developing (thanks also go to Nikki and Janice for the shortcut).
Special mention should go to Lucy Dormer for being the youngest walker of the day (7 years old) and to all those walkers who didn’t once moan – you know who you are….
Early indications are that the High School squad have raised over £500.00 from the walk and that the club cheerleaders have also raised over £500.00.
Well Done Everyone!
25th April – C.L.S.G Cheerleading Club
The new cheerleading club at City of London School for Girls has made a great start on Friday evenings. The group have been working hard over the last three training sessions and are making great progress in stunts, motions and jumps. Keep up the hard work!
31st March 2008 - Hairspray at Burntwood
The Burntwood High Squad was treated to an exciting dance workshop led by Emma Dodd who is currently appearing in the West End production of ‘Hairspray’. Emma had hoped to come and run the workshop in January this year but last minute rehearsals for Hairspray meant the workshop had to be postponed – but it was well worth the wait! The girls learnt choreography from the finale of the production ‘You Cant Stop the Beat’, and performed them in a larger than life way! The girls also performed their most recent competition routine for Emma (without tumbling and stunts) who was really impressed with the girls and all their hard work. We hope Emma will come back again soon!
12th March 2008 – Wandsworth Sports Awards
Burntwood High School squad performed at last night’s Sports Awards. It was a good chance to practice their brand new senior intermediate routine “Need for Speed” which was choreographed for seven 12x2m mats and was last night performed on two! The highlight of the evening was having named Wandsworth Under 18's Sports Team of the Year! Congratulations girls!
7th March 2008 - Park House Cheerleading Club Launches:
Over 90 cheerleaders came along to our Trial Training Session at Park House School, Newbury on Thursday 28th February. We started our regular training on Thursday 6th March will a full club! It’s a very exciting new project and we look forward to preparing the squads for the first competition early next year.
